WELCOME to the English for Medical Purposes (EMP) website.
This site is a free and open educational resource for anyone with an interest in English for Medical Purposes. This site has been developed by the Department of International Medical Communications at Tokyo Medical University (http://www.tokyo-med.ac.jp/dimc) with support from the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). This interactive course, covering 18 modules of clinical therapeutics, is divided into 2 main sections:
- Reading materials based on the EMP undergraduate course for students in the 3rd and 4th year of their medical course. This includes clinical concepts, created in collaboration with our clinical specialists, articles, all with kind permission, from top-level medical journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, medical terminology and written exercises. Covering a wide range of therapeutic areas, this section helps users to develop their critical reading and analytical skills.
- Video materials of genuine doctor-patient consultations in English. Each video case is supported by a full English transcript and includes interactive questions for self-study purposes. These real-life consultations are essential study material for those seeking to improve their medical communication skills.
